In recent years, the automotive market has been accelerating its shift to electric vehicles (EVs) due to expanding global efforts to address environmental issues, and it is predicted that xEVs will make up approximately 50% of the market by 2030. On the other hand, with respect to EVs being developed with rapid progress, the major issues are the improvement of cruising range and cost, and AC relays are also required to be smaller, lighter, and less costly.

As the number of EVs sold increases, demand for on-board chargers is expected to rise. Accordingly, EM devices has developed “AX1,” an AC relay specifically designed for use in vehicles. We have realized AX1 smaller and lighter in order to meet the needs of customers for a longer cruising range. AX1 is the world’s smallest relay in the 32A/ isolation withstand voltage 4KV class*1. In addition, by making full use of our product development know-how, we have achieved a cost reduction of approximately 50% compared to our conventional product. The product lineup includes 16A and 32A (contact types are 1a and 1c).

EM Devices will continue to combine our 70 years of experience in relay development technology, and based on the newly established NEXEM Advanced Technology Center on the Tohoku University campus, further accelerate the lineup of value-added EV relays to satisfy our customers in cooperation with Tohoku University, which has world-class research and development capabilities.
